We put the FY 2025-26 covers of 23 Indian listed companies side by side, then shrank them to 120 pixels. ICICI Bank's single word, Zee's steel Z and LTM's coined verb survive the test. SBI's three-line slogan, Sun Pharma's stock photography and three near-identical blue AI covers don't. What works on an annual report cover, what fails, and a checklist for briefing your agency.
No Indian law requires a Chairman's or CEO's letter, yet it's the page that sets the tone for the whole report. We went back to the leadership messages in the FY2025-26 reports we've scored and pulled eight real pages: the letters that make an argument, give the numbers early and name the bad news, and the ones that leave a 26% profit fall to the MD&A. Here's a structure for each message, a checklist, and what it means for CFOs, company secretaries and IR teams.
Every large Indian integrated report now has a value creation model. We scored ten FY 2025-26 models against what the Integrated Reporting Framework actually asks for. All ten put numbers against their inputs. None shows a trade-off between capitals, and only one keeps outputs and outcomes cleanly apart.
An accessible annual report is a tagged PDF that a screen reader can read in the right order, with alt text, real tables and a title and language set. How to plan it into the InDesign workflow, fix it in Acrobat, test it with free tools and get it ready for digital use, plus where Indian law stands in 2026.
Ind AS 115 asks five questions in a fixed order, from 'is there a contract?' to 'when does the customer get control?'. Each step has an Indian example, and a checklist covers disclosure paragraphs 110 to 129.
Q2 FY27 results are due by Saturday 14 November 2026, but the deadline is only one of seven dates. Here's the whole sequence, from the trading window closing on 1 October to the call transcript, with the Diwali holiday that moves the board-meeting notice.
CSR applies for FY 2026-27 if FY 2025-26 net worth, turnover or net profit crossed ₹500 crore, ₹1,000 crore or ₹5 crore. The spend is 2% of the three-year average Section 198 profit, after two exclusions. Here is the whole sum, worked through.
We scored all 17 FY2025-26 reports credited to WyattPrism in our 72-report agency comparison, from Hindustan Zinc and Adani Total Gas to Dr. Reddy's, Vedanta and Zee Entertainment. Their best 11 averaged 22.7 out of 35, the highest of five agencies by a tenth. The strengths are value creation models with numbers, Board responsibility statements and the most online editions. The weak spots are candour in the letters and the PDF itself.
We went back to the 14 FY2025-26 reports credited to SGA Adsvita in our 72-report agency comparison, from L&T Finance and Aditya Birla Real Estate to Lumax and SKF India. Its best 11 average 20.6 out of 35. The strengths are multi-year KPI pages that keep the bad years in and the cleanest PDF bookmarks in the study. Integrated thinking and online editions are the weak spots.
We scored 14 FY2025-26 reports credited to Stirrup, from Tata Steel to Sun Pharma, and its best 11 averaged 22.6 out of 35. Here's where the work is strongest: ESG targets against progress, capitals with real numbers and financial pages that keep the bad news in. Plus where it slips.
We scored all 16 FY2025-26 annual reports credited to Kalolwala & Associates (K&A) in our 72-report study, from Marico and Federal Bank to Cipla, Tata Consumer Products and Embassy Office Parks REIT. The work is strongest on governance pages, capital trade-offs and ESG targets shown against progress. It is weakest on the digital PDF.
We scored all 11 FY2025-26 reports in our 72-report agency comparison that credit Report Yak, from Brigade Enterprises and Jindal Stainless to KRBL and Suzlon. Its strength is a distinctive visual theme built for each client, and integrated reports that map how the capitals connect. Here's what that looks like, where the reports fall short, and who the work suits.
SEBI LODR doesn't make a listed company hold an earnings call. Once it holds one, five clocks start: the notice, the presentation, the audio, the video and the transcript.
Design isn't decoration in an annual report. It decides whether a busy investor finds the answer in two minutes or gives up after twenty. Examples from Indian reports for 2025-26: covers, value creation models, KPI pages, ESG tables, governance and the digital file.
SEBI wants a monitoring agency on every public issue, however small, and wants that agency to report straight to the stock exchanges when a company stops cooperating. Comments close on 3 November 2026.
A quarterly investor presentation is a disclosure document under Regulation 30, so every slide has to trace back to something already filed. The slide order that works, and the December 2024 rule that moved the filing to before the call.
India hasn't notified IFRS 18, the new global rulebook for the profit and loss statement, but ICAI has already exposed an Indian version, Ind AS 118, with a proposed start of 1 April 2027. Here's what it changes, where it stands, and what finance teams can start on now.
We took 72 FY2025-26 annual and integrated reports from Indian listed companies, read the agency credit printed in each, and scored every one on the same seven-point card. Five agencies, ranked on their best 11 reports each: who does strategy, integrated thinking, ESG, financials, design and digital best, and what all of them get wrong.
Most annual report agencies look alike in a pitch: a good portfolio, a confident team, a reasonable quote. Eight questions and a 100-point scorecard to compare them on what actually decides the project: design, content, regulatory depth, timelines, accuracy, the team, confidentiality and commercials.
The FY 2025-26 AGM season closed on 30 September 2026, so AOC-4 and MGT-15 now fall due by 30 October and MGT-7 by 29 November for a last-day AGM. The full chain from AGM date to ROC filing, with the FY 2026-27 calendar and the now-permanent electronic dispatch rule in LODR.
SEBI's final Closing Auction Session circular moves the auction to 3:30-3:40 pm and settles expiring derivatives on a 30-minute continuous-trading VWAP from 7 December 2026. F&O stocks will close at one price and settle at another on expiry day. The ICDR, SAST and delisting VWAP floors don't change; closing-price tests for QIPs, buy-backs and ESOPs still use the auction close.
NFRA's sixth Auditor–Audit Committee note sets out six going-concern situations and the audit report outcome each one produces, plus 35 questions audit committees should be ready to put to their statutory auditor. The row that decides qualified versus adverse is the adequacy of the disclosure, not the accounting conclusion.
When a reviewer pastes an agency's annual report draft into a personal ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot account, the unpublished numbers can be stored for months or years, read by human reviewers and used to train future models. Why that's a UPSI problem, how Copilot differs between work and personal accounts, and why human feedback still beats AI feedback.
AI can make annual report work faster and, used well, better. But unreleased report content is often unpublished price sensitive information, so it can't go into a consumer chatbot. What to use AI for, what to keep human, and how to set up a private, API-based pipeline with a team workflow around it.
The format comes from a 2015 SEBI circular, the clock is 45 days for the first three quarters and 60 for the year, and the signatory list in Regulation 33(2)(b) is closed: no CFO, no company secretary.
We read the FY 2025-26 annual reports of 20 large Indian listed companies and scored each on the same seven criteria. Hindustan Zinc's integrated report is the best annual report in India on our card, at 30 out of 35, ahead of TCS and HUL. The full ranking, the best report in each category, and what the leaders do that the rest don't.
Any company with a 31 March 2026 year-end that neither held its AGM by 30 September 2026 nor holds an ROC extension order has been in default since 1 October. What the Registrar can still do, what Section 99 costs per day, and why a company-law extension does nothing for your SEBI filings.
The PDF is what the rules ask for. The digital edition is where the report actually gets found, read and shared. What a full HTML annual report is, what it typically costs in India (about ₹1.5 lakh to upwards of ₹10 lakh), and the exposure it buys a listed company even though it isn't mandatory.
For a large listed company with a 600 to 800-page annual report, a full-service agency project in India typically costs ₹20 to 30 lakh, and the fee comes down as the page count does. What that buys, what moves the price, what sits outside it, a 16-week reverse plan and a brief you can copy.
Three weeks after SEBI's 24 September 2026 board meeting, the Settlement Regulations, 2026 and the Portfolio Managers Regulations, 2026 are notified, and the vault manager and research analyst amendments are on the books. Regulation 62A relief and the REIT/InvIT changes are still waiting. Here's the item-by-item tracker, status checked 18 October 2026.
Bajaj Finance has a real five-year plan with numbers you can check. But its highlights page leads with a profit that leaves out the year's biggest cost, and the clearest sign of stress in the loan book is in a note on page 342.
An Indian annual report is three rulebooks bound into one document: the Companies Act, the Accounts Rules and SEBI LODR Regulation 34. The full contents checklist, the order to bind it in, a page budget for the narrative half and how to keep it short without losing compliance.
An integrated report explains how a company creates, preserves or erodes value over time, using six capitals and eight content elements. In India it has been voluntary since SEBI's 2017 circular, and the 2026 LODR master circular carries no integrated reporting chapter at all. Here is what the framework asks for, who maintains it now, how it differs from an annual report and a sustainability report, and what the better Indian reports actually do.
Adani Ports' Integrated Annual Report 2025-26 sets numeric targets for FY27 and FY31, publishes a 2030 ESG scorecard with target and actual side by side, describes each of the year's four contractor fatalities, and has its whole BRSR reasonably assured. It is also 847 pages long, opens with 18 pages about the wider Adani portfolio, and gives political contributions as ₹200 crore in the governance chapter and ₹80 crore to one electoral trust in the standalone accounts, without explaining how the two relate.
SBI's 592-page PDF is two documents in one file: a 423-page annual report that never mentions the capitals, and a 328-page Sustainability Report that carries the value creation model, the materiality matrix, the BRSR and the assurance. The numbers are strong and the ten-year table is honest, but the margin miss, the doubling of Scope 1 emissions and a board short of independent directors all sit where few readers will look.
NTPC's seventh integrated report sets out a clear corporate plan (149 GW by 2032, 244 GW by 2037) and is candid in its statutory pages about a Board that never had enough independent directors. It also reports 358 million tonnes of Scope 1 emissions with no prior-year figure and no target, and calls FY26 its best profit year without saying that profit before tax fell and a deferred tax remeasurement did the lifting.
Sun Pharma's Annual Report 2025-26 is a conventional statutory report, not an integrated one: a 16-page corporate overview, a ten-year table, a well-organised governance report and a BRSR with DNV reasonable assurance. The US FDA's OAI classifications at Halol and Baska, a US$200 million settlement involving Taro and a 38% fall in standalone profit are all disclosed, but only in the BRSR and the notes to the accounts.
The first annual report under the LTM name has a Board responsibility statement, a CFO's letter that explains the weaker numbers as well as the good ones, and honest six-year charts. It also has a materiality matrix with no date and no AI topic, a climate page that shows reductions while the BRSR shows Scope 2 emissions nearly doubling, two different renewable-energy figures, and a production note reading 'Need high-res image' printed on two pages.
Titan's 42nd annual report, its ninth year of integrated reporting, has a value creation model with numbers for every capital, a double materiality matrix drawn up under ESRS guidance and KPMG reasonable assurance on BRSR Core. It also scopes the integrated report to the standalone company in the year it bought Damas, has no letter from the Chair in a year the Chair changed twice, and says Scope 3 emissions are not tracked at all.
Asian Paints prints its bad years honestly in its charts and its emissions headline wrongly on its front page: '69.2% reduction in absolute' emissions that its own climate chapter puts at 33%. A business it praises up front is impaired at the back.
Mahindra's Integrated Annual Report 2025-26 has one of the clearest strategy stories in this series: three phases, three sets of businesses, named exits and dated targets for each Growth Gem. The integrated section is a compact 93 pages. But materiality is described without a single topic, the emissions page shows absolute numbers rising without the intensity progress the BRSR reports, and four pages of awards come before the strategy.
Tata Steel names its Dutch penalties and its nine fatalities in the leadership pages, which few Indian reports would do. But the worst news, a going-concern doubt over the Netherlands business, is left to page 309.
ICAI's financial reporting awards closed on 15 October, but its sustainability reporting awards take nominations until 15 November, and CSRWorks' Asian sustainability and integrated reporting awards close on 10 November. The FPJ–CareEdge awards pick their own shortlist, LACP and ARC hand out Top 100 lists and Gold trophies, and a separate set of awards (iNOVA, AVA Digital, Communicator, W3) judges digital annual reports. Here is what's still open, what each award judges, who can enter, what it costs, how Indian companies have done, and how to decide whether an award is worth your team's time.
Three of India's ten largest FY 2025-26 annual reports were themed on AI and three on national growth, and two used the word 'Powering'. In several, the theme line appears on the cover and almost nowhere else. How to choose a theme that comes from strategy, survives past page one and still reads well next year.
The FY 2025-26 AGM season closes on 30 September. The FY 2026-27 annual report starts now, not in April. A working plan for investor relations, finance and compliance teams: the fixed dates to work backwards from, the decisions to take before the year ends, who owns what, and a month-by-month calendar.
The SEBI LODR (Amendment) Regulations, 2026 quietly rewrote Regulations 39 and 40: the Letter of Confirmation is gone, and transfer deeds executed before 1 April 2019 can be registered again through a SEBI special window that runs to 4 February 2027. Here is the clause-level change and the document set that now reads against the wrong baseline.
The MD&A is the one part of an Indian annual report where management has to explain, in its own words, what happened and why. Schedule V Part B of the LODR Regulations lists ten things it must cover, including a rule on key financial ratios that moved 25% or more and a separate one on return on net worth. Here is the requirement clause by clause, the traps in each, and a drafting order that produces an MD&A people finish.
The BRSR is the full report; BRSR Core is the numeric part of it that a third party must check, and from FY 2026-27 that applies to all top 1,000 listed companies. A side-by-side comparison, then each of the nine Core attributes: what it measures, how the intensity ratios work and who owns the number.
From FY 2026-27 the assessment-or-assurance requirement on BRSR Core reaches the top 1,000 listed entities, doubling the population in one step. The FY 2025-26 filing season now closing shows what the first 500 got right and wrong. Here is what a reporting team in the 501-to-1,000 band needs to have in place before April, with the circular references.
HUL's report contains the only page in this series that maps every capital to every other capital, an eleven-year track record with ratios, and a new CEO's first letter that gives the year's numbers in its second paragraph. Its weakest pages are its greenest: '99% reduction in Scope 1 and 2' is an intensity figure against a 2008 base, Scope 2 is reported as 'Net: 0' after IRECs, and the double materiality matrix has the axes of a single one.
Airtel's emissions table is a model of honesty: it footnotes that its own reductions come partly from selling the towers. Its highlights page is less honest, leading with a profit figure that hides a 21% fall in statutory profit.
Hindustan Zinc's seventh integrated report is the most ambitious ESG document in this series: a CSRD-aligned double materiality assessment with rupee thresholds, 2030 goals reported against status, a reporting suite that includes tax transparency, climate action and TNFD reports, and a Board statement of responsibility. It is also 610 pages, leads with its own awards, and reports absolute emissions of 5.02 million tonnes against a 50% reduction target without saying how far along it is.
L&T counts almost everything it builds, down to tonnes of cement. Its Chairman's letter counts 1,369 million accident-free working hours. The 30 people who died on its sites are counted on page 369.
ITC is the one large company in this series that has not adopted integrated reporting for its statutory annual report. The Report and Accounts 2026 is a 24-page corporate showcase, a 90-page Board's report that opens with global GDP, and a 54-page BRSR with KPMG reasonable assurance. It is complete, hyperlinked and old-fashioned, and its highlights page manages to omit profit.
ICICI Bank's report is the shortest and plainest of the big-bank reports: a 62-page integrated section built around 'Fair to Customer, Fair to Bank', a business model wheel, and financial charts that tell the story without adjectives. The costs are a leadership message with no numbers, a materiality assessment last done in fiscal 2025, a BRSR that lives on the website, and a first PCAF financed-emissions exercise whose result is not disclosed.
Infosys prints the most honest highlights page in Indian IT, including a 22% fall in its own market value, then lets the rest of the report run on habits from 2018: a strategy diagram the text has moved past, outcomes written as adjectives, and 'carbon neutral' resting on offsets.
HDFC Bank has the most rigorous materiality and climate accounting of any Indian bank report we have read. But the year's biggest story, its Chairman's resignation and the legal review that followed, gets one sentence of conclusion, on page 15 of a 617-page report.
TCS publishes the most complete integrated business model in the Nifty 50 and a targets-to-status natural capital page others should copy, but its headline profit growth excludes ₹3,366 crore of exceptional items that a reader only finds on page 197.
Reliance's report is very good at showing where last year's value went and poor at showing where the money is going next. The biggest block of capex, ₹52,521 crore, sits in a segment the report calls 'Others'.
For FY 2026-27, the BRSR and the BRSR Core check apply to the same top 1,000 listed companies for the first time. Value chain disclosure stays voluntary. A layer-by-layer applicability test, with the LODR regulation and the SEBI master circular paragraphs to cite in a board note.
Between 1 and 18 September 2026 at least six large listed entities filed stock exchange intimations about ESG ratings they never commissioned. What Regulation 30 requires, how to draft the one-page intimation, and what to tell the board before the AGM.
