Annual Report Awards in India: Which Ones Matter, How They're Judged and Whether to Enter

ICAI's financial reporting awards close on 15 October and its sustainability reporting awards on 15 November. LACP and ARC hand out Top 100 lists and Gold trophies every year, and a separate set of awards (iNOVA, AVA Digital, Communicator, W3) now judges digital annual reports. Here is what each award judges, who can enter, what it costs, how Indian companies have done, and how to decide whether an award is worth your team's time.

In shortThe main annual report awards Indian companies enter are ICAI's Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting (the 2025-26 edition closes on 15 October 2026), ICAI's Sustainability Reporting Awards (nominations to 15 November 2026), SAFA's Best Presented Annual Report Awards for South Asia, ICSI's National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance, and two international paid competitions, the LACP Vision Awards and MerComm's ARC Awards. The Indian professional-body awards judge disclosure quality and compliance; the international ones weigh design, clarity and presentation more heavily. Digital annual reports have their own categories in MerComm's iNOVA and ARC Awards, AMCP's AVA Digital Awards, and AIVA's Communicator and W3 Awards.

Key takeaways

  • ICAI's Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting (EIFR) 2025-26 accept English-language annual reports for financial years ending between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, across 12 categories, with a last date of 15 October 2026. Entities whose auditor's report carries a modified opinion are not eligible.
  • ICAI's 5th Sustainability Reporting Awards take nominations from 17 September to 15 November 2026, charge no participation fee, and require the BRSR, the annual report, the Chairman's AGM speech and a company profile.
  • SAFA's Best Presented Annual Report Awards, run since 1997 by the South Asian Federation of Accountants, add separate Integrated Reporting and SAARC Anniversary Corporate Governance Disclosure awards; the 2024 awards were presented in Islamabad on 27 November 2025.
  • The LACP Vision Awards score reports out of 100, with 30 points for first impression and 10 each for cover, letter to shareholders, narrative, financials, creativity, message clarity and information accessibility; entry fees run from US$525 to US$2,725.
  • MerComm's ARC Awards use blind judging, score each entry three times, and give Honors, Bronze, Silver or Gold only to reports in the top 30% of their classification; the 2026 final deadline was 26 June 2026.
  • Digital annual reports are judged separately: MerComm's iNOVA Awards have an Online Annual Reports category (US$225 per entry, 2026 deadline 29 September), ARC has an Interactive online report class (Infosys won Gold in 2026 for its ESG report), and AVA Digital, Communicator and W3 each have an e-annual report or digital annual report category.
  • Awards are useful as structured external feedback and as a discipline for the reporting team. They are a weak signal of report quality to investors, and a report that opens with its awards spends its most valuable pages on itself.

Once the AGM season is over, the next thing in many reporting teams' inboxes is an award entry. Some come from India's professional bodies, which judge disclosure and compliance. Others come from international competitions that sell entry packages and publish Top 100 lists. They aren't the same thing, and they reward different reports.

This guide covers the awards Indian listed companies enter most often: what each one judges, who can enter, what it costs, the current deadlines, and how to decide which, if any, deserve your team's time.

ICAI Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting

This is the oldest and most serious financial reporting award in India. ICAI has run it since 1958, and the Gold and Silver Shields carry weight with finance teams and auditors because the evaluation starts with the financial statements, not the cover.

The 2025-26 brochure sets out the rules:

  • Eligible reports: English-language annual reports for financial years ending between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026.
  • Who can enter: listed and unlisted entities registered in India. An entity whose auditor's report contains a modified opinion is not eligible.
  • Last date: 15 October 2026, online through ICAI's EIFR portal, with one hard copy of the annual report.
  • Categories: twelve. Public sector banks; private sector banks (including foreign banks); life insurance; non-life insurance; financial services including NBFCs; manufacturing and trading with turnover of ₹5,000 crore or more; manufacturing and trading below ₹5,000 crore; service sector; infrastructure and construction; not-for-profit; public sector entities; and co-operative banks.
  • Awards: a Gold Shield and a Silver Shield in each category.

Evaluation starts with empanelled chartered accountants, acting as technical reviewers, who test the financial statements for compliance with accounting standards, disclosure requirements and the auditor's reporting obligations. A jury decides the winners.

The brochure's list of indicative parameters is worth reading even if you never enter. It covers overall presentation and ease of navigation; vision, mission, strategy and KPIs; directors' profiles; HR policy; the risk management framework; segment reporting; group companies; credit ratings; contribution to the national exchequer; compliance with Ind AS and the law; corporate governance disclosures; a statement of value added; integrated and sustainability reporting; performance trends; the value creation model and capitals; and a logically structured website. As a checklist for a mid-sized company's report, it's hard to improve on.

Results are presented at ICAI's World Forum of Accountants. The 2024-25 awards were presented on 31 January 2026. Recent winners include REC (Gold Shield, financial services, FY 2023-24) and Infosys (Gold Shield, Category VIII service sector, 2024-25), which lists the award in its FY 2025-26 report.

ICAI Sustainability Reporting Awards

These are newer, now in their fifth edition, and they judge the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR). Nominations for the 2025-26 edition run from 17 September to 15 November 2026, and there is no participation fee, according to the brochure.

Categories are Large-Cap, Mid-Cap, Small-Cap and Voluntary Disclosures, each split into manufacturing and service, with the sector decided by where more than half of turnover comes from. Entrants submit the BRSR, the annual report, the Chairman's AGM speech and a company profile. In the previous edition, selection ran in three stages: technical review of the BRSR, a shortlist by a shield panel, and an external jury.

Hindustan Zinc's BRSR was judged best in Manufacturing Large-Cap at the 4th edition, which the company notes in its FY 2025-26 report. For companies in the top 1,000 facing BRSR Core assessment or assurance this year, the award's technical review is a free outside read of the same document.

SAFA Best Presented Annual Report Awards

The South Asian Federation of Accountants, an apex body of the accountancy institutes of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and neighbouring countries, has run its Best Presented Annual Report (BPA) Awards since 1997. It added the SAARC Anniversary Awards for Corporate Governance Disclosures in 2006 and Integrated Reporting Awards in 2015.

The awards cover about 16 sector categories, including private and public banks, insurance, financial services, manufacturing, communication and IT, services, public sector entities, power and energy, and infrastructure. The 2024 awards were presented in Islamabad on 27 November 2025, co-hosted by SAFA with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan. The previous cycle, presented in Colombo in November 2024, gave 10 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze awards across 14 sectors.

Indian public sector companies have done well here. ICAI's results notice for the 2022 awards lists Power Finance Corporation and NTPC among the gold winners and RITES among the silver. The entry route for Indian companies isn't well publicised; start with ICAI's Research Committee.

ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance

Strictly, this is a governance award, not a report award, but the annual report and the corporate governance report are the main evidence, so company secretaries tend to treat it as part of the same season. The 25th edition was presented in New Delhi on 19 December 2025. Winners included Indian Hotels (listed, large), Uno Minda (listed, medium) and Greaves Cotton (listed, emerging). ICSI presents its CSR Excellence Awards and BRSR Awards at the same event; in 2025 the BRSR awards went to L&T Finance and Polycab.

ICSI's council has approved a separate category for debt-listed entities from 2026. Eligibility rules and the last date for the next edition are published on ICSI's corporate governance awards page; check the current notice before planning.

LACP Vision Awards

The League of American Communications Professionals runs what it describes as the world's largest annual report competition. It is open to organisations in any country, and Indian companies enter in large numbers.

It's a different kind of award. Entries are paid, from US$525 for the most basic package to US$2,725 for the most comprehensive, and reports are scored against peer classes set by industry, size and revenue. The score sheet is published with each result and totals 100:

CriterionPoints
First impression30
Cover10
Letter to shareholders10
Report narrative10
Financials10
Creativity10
Message clarity10
Information accessibility10

Infosys's FY 2023-24 report, for instance, scored 97 and won Silver. LACP also publishes a Worldwide Top 100, regional lists and special achievement awards (Most Creative, Most Improved, Best Letter to Shareholders, Best Report Cover and others). Indian companies in the 2024/25 Worldwide Top 100 included LTIMindtree, Titan, ICICI Prudential Life, Tata Consumer, Polycab, Hindustan Zinc, HDFC Life, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki and NMDC.

The latest Vision Awards call closed on 8 May 2026, or 10 July with a late fee. LACP's autumn competitions, Spotlight and Inspire, have a 2 October 2026 deadline.

ARC Awards

MerComm's ARC Awards ("Annual Report Competition") are the other big international competition. Reports covering calendar 2025, or a fiscal year that includes it, were eligible for 2026, with a final deadline of 26 June 2026. Winners were announced on 9 September, and Grand Award and Best of Show results follow in October and November.

Entries go into an overall presentation class (traditional, non-traditional, specialised, non-English or non-profit) and optional featured categories such as cover, letter, interior design, written text, photography, infographics and financial data. There's a specialised class for integrated and ESG reports from Central, East and South Asia. A printed corporate report costs US$410 for overall presentation and US$360 for each featured category; online reports cost less. Judging is blind, each entry is scored three times, and only reports in the top 30% of their classification receive Honors, Bronze, Silver or Gold. Infosys reports two bronze ARC Awards for its FY 2024-25 reports.

Golden Peacock and other awards

The Institute of Directors' Golden Peacock Awards include awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance (since 2001) and for Sustainability, among many others. Entry costs ₹69,500 plus GST per award. Airtel and L&T both list Golden Peacock awards in their FY 2025-26 reports. These judge the company's practices more than the report, but the report is part of the evidence.

Awards for digital annual reports

More Indian companies now publish the annual report as a website as well as a PDF: a digital edition with its own navigation, charts that respond, video messages and search. Hindustan Zinc points readers to a "Digital Integrated Annual Report" alongside its PDF, for example. These digital editions are judged by a different set of competitions, mostly run by the same international organisers, and mostly scored on design, navigation and interactivity rather than disclosure.

iNOVA is MerComm's award for corporate websites, and it is the most specific of the group. Its Online Annual Reports category is split by sector, from banking to energy to telecommunications, and sits alongside separate categories for integrated annual and CSR reports, ESG reports and microsites. The 2026 call for entries accepts any site live between 29 September 2025 and 29 September 2026, and the deadline is 29 September 2026. Judges look at concept, content, creativity, ease of navigation, design, functionality, interactivity and overall success; the top 30% receive Gold, Silver or Bronze, and winners are notified on 19 November.

ARC's online classes are the route most Indian companies have used so far. Online reports are entered by URL only, either as an Interactive report or as a PDF report. In the 2026 results, Infosys won Gold in the Interactive category for its ESG Report 2025-26, and Silver for its Integrated Annual Report 2025-26 in the PDF class.

AVA Digital judges each entry against a standard rather than against other entries: 90 to 100 points earns Platinum, 80 to 89 Gold and 70 to 79 an Honourable Mention. Its sister awards from AMCP, Hermes Creative and MarCom, have annual report categories that accept print or digital work but don't separate the two. Communicator's new category is explicit that "only the digital experience of the annual report will be evaluated", meaning interactivity, navigation and how it performs as a web-based report. The Webby Awards have no annual report category.

In Asia, IR Impact (formerly IR Magazine) runs a South East Asia forum and awards with "best annual report" (print or online) and "best IR website" categories. Nomination is free, but we couldn't confirm whether Indian companies are eligible, and we found no India-specific award for digital annual reports or investor websites.

A practical point if you're considering these: the judges will open your digital report on their own devices, often from another continent. Check load times, mobile layout, accessibility and whether the numbers match the PDF before you enter. A digital edition that loads slowly or disagrees with the statutory report will lose more points than a plain one that works.

What the different awards reward

Put the criteria side by side and the difference is clear. ICAI's financial reporting award starts from compliance: a modified audit opinion rules you out, and chartered accountants read the notes before a jury sees the design. ICAI's sustainability award starts from the BRSR. SAFA sits in the same tradition.

The international competitions start from the reader's experience, and the digital awards go further, judging navigation and interactivity. LACP gives 30 of its 100 points to first impression, as much as the narrative, the financials and message clarity combined. That isn't wrong; a report nobody finishes has failed at something. It does mean a strong LACP score tells you the report is attractive and clear, not that its disclosures are complete or its numbers well explained.

Neither type measures what an investor most wants: whether the report explains the business honestly, including what went wrong. That's the gap our own review scorecard tries to fill, and it's why a report can win several awards and still leave readers with questions.

Should you enter?

Enter the awards whose criteria match what you're trying to improve. If the finance team wants an outside test of its financial statements and notes, ICAI's EIFR is the right one, and preparing the entry is a useful discipline in itself. If you're a top-1,000 company building your BRSR ahead of BRSR Core assurance, the ICAI sustainability award costs nothing but time. If the report is being redesigned and you want feedback on clarity and presentation, an international competition's score sheet gives it, at a price.

Be sceptical of any award you can't explain to your Audit Committee: who judged it, against what, and how many entrants won something. And budget the time honestly. Entry season runs from October to November, exactly when the next report's planning should begin (our planning guide sets out that calendar).

How to present awards in your report

Briefly, and near the back of the corporate section. Our review of Hindustan Zinc's FY 2025-26 report, the highest-scoring report we reviewed this season, still marked it down for two spreads of awards, including the report's own LACP ranking, placed before the "About the Report" page. The opening pages are the ones most readers see. Spend them on what the company does and how it performed, and let the trophies wait.

Preparing an entry: a short checklist

  • Confirm eligibility first: the financial year covered, the language, the category and, for ICAI's EIFR, a clean audit opinion.
  • Use the award's criteria as a review checklist before submitting, not after.
  • Have the final PDF, the printed copy and the website version match. Judges notice differences.
  • Keep a record of the scores and feedback, where given, and add them to next year's lessons note.
  • Decide in advance how, and whether, you'll mention a win in next year's report.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most prestigious annual report award in India?

For financial reporting, the ICAI Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India's Research Committee and run since 1958, are the most established Indian award. They are judged on compliance with Ind AS and the law, disclosure quality and presentation, with Gold and Silver Shields in each of 12 categories. For South Asia, SAFA's Best Presented Annual Report Awards play a similar role.

What is the last date for the ICAI Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting 2025-26?

15 October 2026. Entries are submitted online through ICAI's EIFR portal, with one hard copy of the annual report. Reports for financial years ending between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026 are eligible, in English, from listed and unlisted entities registered in India.

Is there a fee to enter annual report awards?

ICAI's Sustainability Reporting Awards state there is no participation fee; ICAI's EIFR brochure does not mention one. The international competitions charge: LACP Vision Awards entries cost US$525 to US$2,725 depending on the package, and ARC Awards charge US$410 for an overall presentation entry for a printed corporate report plus US$360 for each featured category. Golden Peacock governance and sustainability awards from the Institute of Directors cost ₹69,500 plus GST.

How are the LACP Vision Awards judged?

Each report is scored out of 100: first impression 30 points, and cover, letter to shareholders, report narrative, financials, creativity, message clarity and information accessibility 10 points each. Reports compete in peer classes set by industry, company size and revenue. LACP also publishes a Worldwide Top 100, regional lists and special achievement awards such as Most Creative and Best Letter to Shareholders.

Which Indian companies have won annual report awards recently?

Infosys won the Gold Shield in Category VIII (Service Sector) at the ICAI Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting 2024-25 and two bronze ARC Awards for its FY 2024-25 reports. Hindustan Zinc's BRSR was judged best in Manufacturing Large-Cap at the 4th ICAI Sustainability Reporting Awards. LACP's 2024/25 Worldwide Top 100 included LTIMindtree, Titan, ICICI Prudential Life, Tata Consumer, Polycab, Hindustan Zinc and HDFC Life.

Are there awards for digital or online annual reports?

Yes. MerComm's iNOVA Awards have an Online Annual Reports category with sector classifications, plus integrated report, ESG and microsite categories (US$225 per entry; the 2026 deadline is 29 September, for sites live between 29 September 2025 and 29 September 2026). MerComm's ARC Awards judge online reports in Interactive and PDF classes. AMCP's AVA Digital Awards have an E-Annual Report category, AIVA's Communicator Awards have a Best Digital Annual Report Experience category, and AIVA's W3 Awards have an Annual Reports website category.

Should we mention awards in our annual report?

A short list near the back of the corporate section is reasonable. Putting awards in the opening pages, before the reader has learned what the company does or how it performed, uses the report's most-read pages for self-promotion. Awards for the report itself are of little interest to investors and are best kept to one line.
